Bio

Although he was drafted by the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames in the third round (59th overall) in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, MacDonald opted to attend Harvard University, where he became the all-time leader in goals (111) and power-play goals and ranks second on the Crimson’s career points list (225).Twice named a first-team All-American (1986-87, 1988-89), MacDonald received the Hobey Baker Award and led Harvard to the school’s first NCAA title in any sport in 1989. The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference named him one of the top 50 players in league history and he was also named to the ECAC All-Decade Team for the 1980s. Internationally, MacDonald represented the U.S. in the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, the IIHF World Men’s Championship in 1987 and the IIHF World Junior Championship in 1986. MacDonald spent a season in Switzerland with Lugano of the Swiss Hockey Association before his professional hockey career was cut short due to a number of head injuries.
